John Huston’s 1951 adventure starring Humphrey Bogart, who won his only Oscar for this film, and Katharine Hepburn is set in German East Africa at the beginning of the First World War. Hepburn and Robert Morley play a brother and sister who are British Methodist missionaries relying on deliveries from the rough-and-ready Charlie Allnut,  the captain of a steam launch called The African Queen. When war breaks out between Britain and Germany, they are forced to leave with the help of Captain Allnut. UGT film buff Chris Leach gives a pre-screening powerpoint presentation on the movie and its stars.
