You must remember this: the classic 1942 romantic film Casablanca, which celebrated the 75th anniversary of its world premiere last November, is set during the Second World War. It centres on Rick Blaine, the owner of Rick’s Cafe Americain in Casablanca, and Ilsa Lund, the wife of a Resistance leader, who sacrifice their love for a higher purpose: to defeat the Nazis. Humphrey Bogart plays Rick and Ingrid Bergman is Ilse, and the cast also features Claude Rains, Sydney Greenstreet, Peter Lorre and Conrad Veidt.

Broadcast live from the Royal Opera House is The Royal Ballet’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s great romance The Winter’s Tale into a modern narrative ballet. This adaptation was created by The Royal Ballet’s artistic associate Christopher Wheeldon and after its premiere is now considered a modern ballet classic. The story follows the destruction of a marriage through consuming jealousy, the abandonment of a child and a seemingly hopeless love.
